"D" Is For Devotion = Dogs

Back in 1990 we fell in love with shelties...
Sandy -
our first little girl - at 12 pounds, best mouser I have ever seen and who owned Mr. Outback - totally...

My Dutch -
the 2nd girl who would walk a mile out of her way to avoid a mud puddle and the one who defined sweetness and Devotion to me. I miss her everyday...

Now we have three -
Shy Sasha -
... her Devotion was placed with our son. When he moved to Alaska, I think he would have taken her along if there had been room in his car... at 15 she now only wants a few things in her life...fed promptly at 5:00 p.m., not to be bothered too much by the other two and to get her pain meds sandwiched between a little square of homemade bread and just a touch, please, of violet jelly.
Sasha is related to our Dutch and tugs at my heart too...
Molly -
at 7 years - our notoriously needy middle child who loves attention, chases airplanes and has a coat of fur to end all coats. She likes to be nearby when doing chores...like most shelties, she has opinions on everything!

Kelsie -
the junior girl in our trio at 5 years of age and the most affectionate who absolutely must be by her people at all times. In some ways she is a larger blue merle version of our Sandy.

Each of them are Devoted in their own unique way - the term "unconditional love" is always used when describing dogs but we must love them back unconditionally too. When that happens, the glow of Devotion in their eyes will steal your heart. They have all enriched our lives beyond measure.

Please be sure to visit all the other "D" posts for Alphabe-Thursday over at Jenny Matlock's. I will be away for a few days and promise to catch up with everyone on my return.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Pat

  1. Loved seeing your dogs. They look like they are well loved and cared for. I agree, dogs are very devoted. I wouldn't want to do without my little Cairn Terrier named Jack!

  8. Wow, beautiful coats. I bought my first house from a lady that bred & showed these great dogs. They were all so sweet, she had 8 of them!

  9. What beautiful creatures! No wonder you love them - and it sounds like they give back just as much love - it's in their eyes.

  10. I didn't realize these beautiful dogs had lovely gray coats, too.

What delightful friends you have. I enjoyed the stories of them and I could picture in my mind their personalities so clearly.

I can see why you love them!

The 'touch of violet jelly' made me smile.

  12. Pat. thank you so much for sharing about the dogs with all of us. DWH and I had a nice laugh when you described Sasha - must be kin to our 14-y-o Brady who can tell time and at 6 pm his dinner is to be served - has to have his Rimadyl, Benadryl and Glucosamine with cheese squares and actually comes to you when you tell him to get his shot - he is diabetic. Casey Gail is his support system and she gets all the treats he does - even thought she has nothing wrong with her. Love them to pieces. Judy C

  13. Hi! I was by yesterday to visit and I just wanted to make sure you had seen my previous comment!

Your dogs are lovely. I didn't know that this breed had that "blue" color. Really gorgeous dogs. I can see why they are such a big part of your family!

Your 'touch of violet jelly' made me smile again today.

    Thanks for linking.

  14. Beautiful pets! I love dogs too! For now, we do not have any...but we do have our "granddog" (our older daughter and son-in-law's sweet cockerspaniel) who cracks us up, with his personality! He loves to be by everyone...hadnt met a person he didnt like and acts like an old man...so laid back :o)

    Blessings & Aloha!
I'm so thankful that Blogger is up and running again! Please stop by if you get a chance...

  16. Aww, you have the cutest dogs :) We don't have any since our apartment is small and doesn't allow pets. However, my daughter fancies herself a puppy so it's almost like we have one :)

  17. Thanks, Pat, for sharing the wonderful pictures of your little furry people. What would we do without their unconditional love in our lives. I do believe Sasha is "akin" to my Brady who definitely can tell the time. If you don't feed him by 6 pm, he "talks" at you loudly. Have a wonderful trip/time out from the daily chores of life. Judy C sends her best.
