Mountmellick quilt top...

....a work in progress since January, 2014. It has been quite a journey...and I love the results!

This quilt is a design by Di Ford Hall of Australia and published throughout last year in Quiltmania. We did not know what each stage would be which added to the challenge! Now I must baste (my least favorite stage of the quilt making process)...

I will have time to think about how to approach the actual quilting.. This week we are "camped out" in front of the house as they refinish our hardwood floors...

...but I still have easy access to my sewing room which is entered by way of a tiled hallway...(kicking myself for not bringing the tile into the kitchen instead of wood...)

Then comes spruce up and painting the laundry room...and the gardens...and the ongoing concerns with my Mom and Dad...

And so it goes at Taylorsoutback...who knew retirement would not be the quiet years...

Have a good week everyone!

  1. Looks like something I would expect to see in a museum! Wow!! Stunning work!
(Just want to tell you that I have a friend who tiled her kitchen and she regretted it. If you spend much time on your feet in the kitchen, those hard tiles can give you troubles that can go anywhere from your feet to legs, to hips to back. I can attest to that as well after a ground floor kitchen of vinyl over concrete. I have had a wood kitchen floor for 10 years now and it has been so much easier on my body.)

  2. Wonderful finish, Pat! Your top is beautiful. We both know the challenges this quilt presented, but I know we both learned a lot! Now it's on to the quilting part! Good luck with your floors and no, retirement isn't about just sitting in rocking chairs!

  3. Beautiful quilt Pat. Before you know it, the quilt will be basted and then you can get on with finishing it. Just lovely. So fortunate that you have a home away from home while the floors are getting done. Enjoy your little home away from home.

  5. It's really beautiful Pat. Very dedicated to stick with a mystery design and actually finish it. The dark red final border just finishes it it off perfectly. Hope you get your jobs done quickly so you enjoy the warmer weather.

  6. What a gorgeous quilt ... well done! We didn't have a camper to stay in when we had a our hardwood floors refinished a couple of years ago. Luckily things were dry enough by 6:00PM or so that we could go do something during the day and be able to get around (in our stocking feet) that evening. Yes, our retirement years are busy ones, aren't they?

  11. Oh, I hear you about retirement being the quiet years. I told someone recently that they sure aren't the "golden years". I will be glad to have my in-laws all settled in their retirement home this month. I am ready to get back to my regular routine of sorts.
At least you have the camper to go to instead of a motel.
    Your quilt is fabulous!!!
