Spring - 2017....

.....has returned to Taylorsoutback...greening up, ducks and geese back on our pond raising their new families and me rediscovering how to use those soft winter muscles as work begins in the gardens..

The long winter days are behind us and you will find me with paintbrush or shovel in hand most days.
Sprucing up the house is top priority this year...after 20 years at Taylorsoutback, things need to happen!
My Dad, who was career Navy, always recalled a favorite saying from his days aboard ship...
"if it is moving salute it...if it is not...paint it!"

So far I have painted our long hallway in from the garage and tried chalk paint/distressing on a very plain, inexpensive cupboard...don't you agree that it has the appearance of being stuck in an old barn for years?

Quilting time has been hit or miss but I finally have 1 quilt top to show before it goes off to the long arm quilter...hand quilting will probably not be an option anymore in the future - arthritis does not make for a good companion.

So...here is my 3 year adventure in making Di Ford Hall's Drayton Hall...
ta da!!

That's it for now - will try to post a little more often...

Pat

  1. Pat, so good to hear from you again!
I got a chuckle from your Dad's saying.
Your painting of the cupboard certainly would have fooled me--looks like you pulled it down from an attic. I think you did a great job. I've never tried the chalk method. Did you find it easy? I'd probably end up making it look like a 3 year-old playing with chalks did it.
Beautiful work on the Di Ford quilt! Tough dealing with not being as young as we used to be, isn't it? Arthritis hasn't hit my hands yet, but it is making up for that in a few other areas. : )

  2. So glad you are back. I have been missing you and thinking of you. Sounds like you are getting plenty of things done around the house though and that is a good thing. Love your quilt. It definitely looks like a labor of love. I am going to have to try that chalk pain that everyone is talking about. Your little cupboard is beautiful with all it's lovelies inside. Welcome back.

  3. The chalk paint is lovely on your cabinet and it does look like it's been around for quite sometime. Great good. Your Drayton hall is gorgeous. Wow what a project! I don't think any of Di's patterns are "a quilt in a day"! So 3 years is excellent.
