Don't Tread On Me....

Oh so very long ago - think it was in 4th or 5th grade, we were assigned a specific art project...instead, while most of the other students were dutifully completing their assignment, I went off in another direction and drew a version of this famous 1775-1776 flag....

Given my totally obsessive fear of anything that slithers, just can't figure out what got into my young head. Needless to say, my teacher was not pleased with my behavior....so what, you ask, has this got to do with quilting? But of late, my quilting mojo has taken a nose dive. Three huge projects - all of which involve major handwork, are proving to be very long term with no finish in sight yet. Do you ever just want to switch gears temporarily - Just because....? I could have chosen something from my long list of "started" projects. But nooooo...lets do something from scrappy scratch..

Here is the top - not an official finish yet but it was nice to just sit at the Bernina and hear it hum along

It is all ready a nice lap size so will probably just finish it up with a striped binding cut on the bias. Think it should be called No Rhyme Or Reason and keep it in the RV.

Now back to some of that handwork - and Don't Tread On Me while the search is on for my quilting mojo - its out there somewhere. Maybe frozen in place due to what feels like an endlessly cold winter..

Interesting glimpse into your past. : )
Sometimes you just need something fresh and fast to spur you on. Looks like you found it--and I like the name.
Love the picture at the end. Wouldn't that be nice?

Do I EVER want to switch gears sometimes.:) Looks like you found a good distraction!

I love your dream world! I think you are very wise to move to some variety in between big projects. I love to mix in some quick things like table runners or little doll quilts.
Your scrappy blocks look fun.

You know....I think there are those times when you just need to do something quick and easy just so you can say you have a finish. Your top is very pretty. I think all us in the north and north eastern states are really ready for some Spring. I am sooooo tired of the snow and cold as I am sure you are too. Some warmth and sun sound so appealing right now. Hang on, your mojo will come back soon. In the meantime, enjoy that new quilt that you just made.

I love what you've decided to work on to break up the handwork. I know exactly what you're feeling. I'm just about in the same spot and ready to jump to something new. Enjoy!

I know all about that loss of mojo! Quilting, sewing, blogging, work - I've lost my mojo for one or the other at sometime. It always comes back, but it's no fun when it's gone missing!

It happens to all of us I think. This winter has been long and brutal. Enjoy your handwork. Love the cartoon!

I like the outer edge on the quilt blocks you made. Log Cabin style with a twist.

Sometimes straying a little can be a good thing, so go for it. I know what you mean about those big long term projects.

I understand, I have 3 long term hand work projects going at the same time. I have some easy scrappy quilts planned just for a change of pace and to actually have a finished quilt. I really like your scrappy quilt!

You are not the only one! You'll find it and then you'll be unstoppable!

I think there are times when we just need to sit at that machine and feed pieces through there. I just recently switched gears so much that all I did was piece hexagons and mostly knit. I'm back in the sewing room again so your mojo will come back. Each time this has happened to me, I've always "returned". And, I know you will, too.

Wishing your mojo returns soon. I know this winter has been a long one to get through. We have snow on the ground here today. I would love to see flowers. I really like your lap size quilt top that you are working on now. It will be so nice to have it in your RV.
