Slow going with reverse stitching...

Just discovered Kathy's Slow Sunday Stitching- how could I have missed this before? Everything lately has been slow stitching and way too much reverse sewing. Among the slow projects is this center for a quilt called Drayton Hall by Di Ford. Those 3 pieces off by themselves are little birdie parts looking for a new place to land after being "unsewn".

New to broderie perse, the number of pieces that have been appliqued and then removed or repositioned are numerous - making for very slow stitching indeed. Eventually, this will be an almost complete circle with a slight opening at the top...but in the meantime...slow and steady is the way things go at Taylorsoutback.

Relax...

....bought some craft burlap, an inexpensive set of stencils and green spray paint..

Used an old pillow for inside...some quick sewing..

And now if I can find the time, there is a comfy cushion for my tired back.

Guess I had better start making an effort to relax, with newly diagnosed elevated blood pressure (just one more pill to add to the collection - great)

Carpe Diem...

.....it is the beginning of summer here in Wisconsin.. June is just about the most perfect month in my humble opinion. Powder blue skies, puffy clouds...comfortable days and cool nights for sleeping. Everything is new green and the pond is high...young life abounds ...

Outdoor projects come together after a start last Fall...

My herbs are doing a happy dance because their feet are no longer in clay soil that is either hard baked or soggy following any rain...this is their new home..

Loving the blue lupines along the back - special to me - seeds were brought back from one of our Alaska trips...

A little clump of marigolds, chervil and basil seedlings by the potting shed porch...

Miss Kim lilacs in bloom...a delicate fragrance hangs in the evening air...

Somehow, I got distracted from unsewing borders (more on this another time)

...watching our family of goslings with their attentive parents.

I did manage to finish Block #6 on the Benjamin Biggs Wedding Quilt - this was an enjoyable bit of applique to do...

Violets in the morning.. Part 2

Okay...those violet blossoms sat all night and the liquid turned an inky, murky blue-green.

Using a strainer...drain the liquid into another glass container and discard the blossoms.

Add 4 tablespoons of pure lemon juice and look at the magic - the infusion changes into a lovely deep violet.

Have your clean jars ready...

Pour the infusion into a non-reactive kettle - enamel is always good. Slowly add 1 package of Sure-jel stirring constantly until thoroughly dissolved.

Bring to a boil. Add 4 cups of sugar - again slowly, stirring constantly. (I found this to be important in avoiding clumps of sugar in earlier batches.) Bring to another boil and cook for 1 minute - continuing to stir. Mixture will begin to thicken. Immediately ladle into the glass jars and wipe rims carefully if needed. Place lids on each jar and tighten. I let my jelly stand for a while to cool and set and then keep stored in frig.

Violet Jelly! ... Tastes like a delicate honey with a hint of the violet flowers. A jar makes a thoughtful and unique gift.
