Joining in on the fun over at As Sweet As Cinnamon Dawn has been blogging about how your blog name came to be. Be sure to visit the links from everyone - makes for some fascinating reading!
So here is my story and I am sticking to it...
Our son, Dave, got me started on blogging as a birthday gift - I received an email from him and was told to go to the link he provided...there I was - all set up with the basics for a brand new blog called The Journal of Taylorsoutback. (WordPress) I still remember the excitement of seeing that first official comment from someone...and was amazed that people actually stopped by.
January of 2011 brought me to Blogger and some of their features which I enjoy using vs. WordPress. The name of the blog was switched to Thoughts From Taylorsoutback at that time. It has been a good move.
Taylorsoutback refers to where we live in Northern Wisconsin...on 40 acres of former farmland with a nice pond and natural spring. Other than the original homesteaders who lived in a log cabin initially, we are the only family to have occupied the property. At some point, the cabin was replaced by a brick farmhouse which apparently burned quite a few years ago. We have a modern version of the first log cabin. We built our log home in 1995-96.
My husband was born in Sydney, Australia in 1943. My mother-in-law was born and raised in Australia and was one of the first Australian brides to marry an American officer during WWII. When we moved into our new home, Mr. Outback called it Taylorsoutback.
This is where my Thoughts From Taylorsoutback come from - way too many and never enough time to do it all...always busy with quilting, gardening, our shelties, and watching bears, deer and abundant water fowl on the pond throughout the changing seasons.
Thank you for dropping by - and please come again real soon!!
(And if you like to see quilts - check out my earlier post here.)
Linking up with Alphabe-Thursday for the letter of the week - "Y" - stretching it to include My Back Yard...too many fun places to be!
I had been wondering where your blog name came from - now I know. I have to admit I am a wee bit envious of your beautiful home and property. How amazing to look out your front door and see the pond and surrounding trees. Absolutely lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou have an international house as well, TO! Didn't realize that! Love a man with an accent!
ReplyDeleteI always did wonder how such a typically Australian expression (outback) came into your blog, well now I know..!! How awesome....

What a beautiful post. Now I know what outback is. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHI from Outback crafter. I love that you have an Aussie in your home. And I even more love that 'outback' is travelling the world. Thanks for commenting on Dawn's link up. It was a fantastic idea to make us think about why we chose our names.

Ha Ha I am with a couple fo the other girls - always wondered why there was outback in your title! Now I know. I am green with envy at the fact that you live in a log cabin and right by a pnnd - sigh - deer and water fowl as well - you can keep the bears I will stick with the real outback version - the koala - less likely to eat me!

An excellent explanation and a wonderful place to live. Certainly it's 'Outback' , even though it's in the US. You couldn't live further removed from 'up town'. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeletethoughtful information.
ReplyDeletelovely location to reside.
Cheers.
Your little slice of heaven is so aptly named. I so enjoyed learning the history!
ReplyDeleteNow my curiosity has been satisfied. It always seemed like an Aussie connection. Thanks for the explanation.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful house, and thanks for the explanation. That's a really interesting little piece of history.
ReplyDeleteI love how your name came to be! (What a beautiful log home too!) That is so awesome that your hubby was born in Australia and his mom's family are all from Australia! My hubby flew some exercise missions in the Australian Outback for the Army and loved it! He especially loved the young Aborigine children that loved hanging about him when he was there :o) Here is a post with some of the photos on a short video clip of him with those children.

Thank you as always for your sweet visit! (Went into Savannah and bought some more fabric! haha my hubby so sweetly and patiently waited while I made my selections...but I did also patiently and sweetly waited while he was looking at rifles at Bass Pro Shop ;o)
What a lovely home you have and now we know about your Australian connection. Thanks for sharing an interesting story.
ReplyDeleteYour "log cabin" is beautiful -- what a lovely area you live in! I'd have to spend all my time just sitting and enjoying the beauty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by for AlphabeThursday! I hope china painting doesn't fade away, it's much too lovely! I recently found two beautiful mugs in a thrift store that were china painted - the inscription said "Christmas 1975 - Love, Mom and Dad" Made me so sad that they ended up in a thrift shop. (But, oh well, I can enjoy them now!)
I enjoyed reading how you came to name your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to live.
Oh! I just wanted to let you know that after I read this post, I went to Dawn's and although it usually takes as long as it does for me to get a post together to post, I really wanted to join in on this one :o) So, I am happy that I was able to get my post up in time :o)
ReplyDeleteBlessings & Aloha!

What a lovely website you have! I love your beautiful home, property, and Birthday Quilt. I know you mentioned that the Birthday Quilt is out of print but that you might be willing to share copies of the pattern. I would love to make it. How could I get a copy? Thank you!
