In the life of any blog, it is just a matter of time before something nasty attaches itself to the Comments area...I am worn out from deleting dozens, upon dozens, of "Anonymous" comments associated with a blog entry months ago. I don't need prescriptions for Xanax, Valium or Viagra and don't want to buy cheap, knock off purses or jewelry.
In an effort to stem this (only temporary as I am sure, "Anonymous" will find another entry to annoy me) I have enabled Comments - Registered Users Only (open ID included). Hopefully this will be a temporary measure and one you find not inconvenient to use for the time being.
Let's see if this kicks "Anonymous" off of my blog for a while...
Pat, wondering why some people just don't get a life!
I did that to my blog as well and haven't noticed any issues, except less (none) spam email. I do my log cabins exactly the same way and ths is a great Leaders/Enders project. I pieced almost a whole log cabin as leader/enders just sitting beside my machine. Love this pattern. Snowflakes? yikes!
ReplyDeleteI haven't allowed anonymous comments for a couple of years now and I've been happy with that, I rarely get any spam at all and that can only be a good thing I think..
ReplyDeleteHave a great week..

Geesh...I don't want to jinx myself, but I haven't encountered that problem...yet. Sure hope this works for you.
ReplyDeleteI also changed my settings to Registered Users and the junk immediately went away. I think most of my followers or readers wanting to comment have a Google A/c anyway so it does not seem to have stopped my friends from commenting on my blog. Hope it works as well for you!
ReplyDeleteI had to do that as well, Pat. It has worked. I don't get a huge volume of comments and it was just getting silly how my anonymous comments I was getting. xxoo Nancy P.S. Don't worry. I'll still come by and comment!
ReplyDeleteHello! I am so sorry you are having to waste time deleting anonymous, boring comments when you could be making beautiful quilts instead! You do NOT need Viagra, etc. for that! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWarmest wishes,
Stephanie
ps I am now following you and wondering why I didn't get round to doing so before.
You could install the comment modification after 'x' days too.
ReplyDeleteI still get anonymous comments, but only behind the scenes.
Perhaps I should try what you did; I was wondering if it could block some commenters who are genuine. Does 'registered' mean people with blogs?
I hope you're able to get rid of this annoying problem! Such a bother for you!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more!
ReplyDeleteWow. What cool offers you get!
ReplyDeleteI usually only get the people who are lost relatives and want money...
OR...
the person who loves my blog (in very bad English) and wants me to put a link in my sidebar!
ha!
