Spring cleaning????

As I work outside for the first time since last Fall, the sound of sandhill cranes, returning geese and redwing blackbirds brings a quiet joy to my heart...while we still may have snowflakes in the days ahead, the gentle rains that are washing away the snow banks tells us that the brutal winter we have come through is about over.

Lilacs are still weeks away from putting on their show, but I just longed for a change in my blog header that says Spring and reminds us how fragrant the air will be.

Still busy in the sewing room keeping on track with Gay's BOM over at Sentimental Stitches. These blocks are for Round 2 (April) of the Cheddarback quilt. I may redo the lower right hand block as it looks a little wonky to me.

And another old UFO has come out of the quilting cave and placed onto the Q Snap Floor Frame. I am using #8 Perle Cotton for tying - something I like to do on certain utility quilts. This quilt is more Spring-like in colors and is being tied from the back for less obvious tacking on the front when using a heavier yarn. I do a running thread from point to point, then when completed, the threads will be clipped and tied off.

This will be my April OMG for Patty over at Elm Street Quilts...just squeaking by in time for entering this month as her link closes down in a few hours.

Finally, Spring cleaning will start this week and I came across an ad from Libman (no affiliation!) that features 6 Ways To Make Spring Cleaning Fun For The Whole Family.

I shared with Mr. Outback (who would much rather focus on outdoor chores)and he laughed so hard, we did not get pass #1 which is to give everyone a personalized bucket...oh well..it was worth a try...guess I will be the only one with a name on a bucket.

All for  now - hoping Spring has arrived in your part of the world!

Pat

  1. Lilacs remind me of my childhood years. There was a big lilac bush right outside my bedroom window. The aroma was heavenly when in full bloom. We can't grow them this far south.

  2. We had both our kids and all the grand kids here yesterday and I found no less than 5 rakes for them to use to rake as many pinecones and winter debris off the front lawn as they could in an hour. The littlest ones used the Gater and a toboggan to haul away the stuff.

  3. I'm not sure even if I had a personalized bucket that I'd jump into spring cleaning. I admit I don't get as much done as I use to. Other things are just more fun.

  4. When I saw your header photo, I thought, Wow! Things really warmed down there in a hurry. I guess not, lol, but it won’t be long now. Lovely blocks for Cheddarback! Interesting way to tie a quilt. I look forward to seeing more photos of your process and the finished quilt.

  6. I love the warmth of your Cheddarback blocks.
Like you, I can't wait for the lilacs to be in bloom. I am hoping against hope that my Moscow pink will bloom this year. It is still pretty scrawny looking, but you never know.
Oh that is pretty funny about the bucket. I wonder if I just put hubby's name on a bucket with some supplies inside if he will take the hint? Pretty sure not. :)

  7. Your Cheddarback blocks are beautiful. And, I don't know why I've never thought to tie a quilt in a frame. My knees are getting too old to tie on the floor. I'll have to give this a try next time I tie one. Happy Spring to you. We had 3" of snow on top of our little yellow crocuses yesterday. Argh!

  8. I thought I left a comment the other day, I guess It didn’t go through? Your Cheddarback blocks are looking wonderful. I am very interested in how you are tying your quilt. My Mom tied some of her quilts but just did it from the front. I don’t think my name on the bucket is going to help. lol

  9. Your Cheddarback blocks look so nice. Thinking it might be fun to do them in red and white. I learned something new and that's the way you tie your quilt in a frame. That is such a great idea! I've been spring cleaning since early Feb. and my name is the only one on the bucket, lol! Feels so good when it's all done!
